Last Sunday Night saw the South Australian Open Sprintcar Title at Murray Bridge Speedway. On a night where most of the competitors were heading home from the arduous World Series Speedweek, Mt Gambier's Steven Lines made a trek worth his while.

To say Lines had to earn his third consecutive South Australian Title would be an understatement. With fellow Maxwill Racing Engines driver, USA Outlaw, Craig Dollansky in blistering form, it was always going to be hard work for any of the field. The night started out in the best possible way for Lines, winning his first heat race in excellent fashion, only to have a coming together with another competitor and rolling over in his second heat, meaning he did not make the 'Top 6 Shootout'.

During the night Jamie Cobby, aboard his Peter Page Holden, Maxwill Racing Engines Sprintcar, was in stellar form winning his heat race and being victorious in the pole shootout ahead of Craig Dollansky driving the Tamar Cars, Maxwill Racing Engines Sprintcar. Another heat race went to third generation rookie, Nick Lacey, driving his Lacey Panelworks, Maxwill Racing Engines Sprintcar. Also featuring in the Shootout were fellow Maxwill Racing Engines competitors Terry Pitt and Mark Reuter, both have great nights.

With Cobby and Dollansky on the front row of the feature, the battle was set to be intense from the start. From the green light of the 30 lap feature, Lines was on a mission, passing 3 cars on the first lap utilising the high line on the racey track. By mid race distance Lines was in second position and hunting down Dollansky. Unfortunately Cobbs great run came to an end when riding a wheel in lapped traffic. With Lines on the tail of Dollansky, he passed him for the lead with 5 laps to go, after the latter had suffered a dislodged wing.

The action didnt stop there, as with 2 laps remaining Lines encountered a flipping lapped car and had to stop to avoid contact. Being reinstated his number one starting position due to stopping after the red light was displayed, Lines drove a text book last 2 laps giving Dollansky no option but to settle for Second position.

Rounding out the top six for the night were Terry Pitt in 5th, driving his Peake Machinery Maintenence, Maxwill Racing Engines, J&J, who has had a sharp rise in form of late, and David Murcott in 6th driving the Downing Brothers, Maxwill Racing Engines, Cool.
